Sewing 103: Alterations

Skill Level: Advanced Beginner (Ages 14+*)

Join our 3-hour one-session class and discover how to alter your own pants and continue your journey towards becoming an expert sewist and creating your own clothing, accessories, and home decor. This workshop is designed for Advanced Beginners or those who have taken our Sewing 101 course and want to further enhance their sewing skills.

Skills Needed: General knowledge on how to use a sewing machine OR having taken our Sewing 101 course. We unfortunately will not have time to go over the beginner basics in this class.

What You'll Learn: You will learn how to hem your own jeans and get that perfect fit in this lab styled class! This activity will introduce you into the world of altering your clothes to your body, with the instructor guiding each student through their project. The fashion industry's standard sizing doesn’t cater to every body type, so take your vision and style into your own hands! Whether your end goal is to make clothing, bags, or other fun projects, these versatile skills will aid you for many years to come.

Required Materials: You MUST bring your own pair of pants that you would like to hem shorter and/or take the waistband in. We will not provide the garments for you. Please be sure to not bring your favorite jeans in or an heirloom garment. This is a class, you're here to learn and make mistakes, and we don’t want you making mistakes on something sentimental!

Materials Provided: Sewing machines, thread, scissors, and other essential sewing tools for use during class.  If you bring your own machine, please be certain that it is in good working order. We will not have time to troubleshoot.

Class Size: Maximum 4 participants to ensure personalized attention and guidance. 

We will be working at a pace appropriate for older teens and adults. This class is not suitable for children. PLEASE BE AT LEAST 14 YEARS OLD unless you have received prior permission from shop staff.

Interested in a private class?  The cost is $60/hour with a 2 hour minimum.  Private group classes are also available for a group of 4 or more.  Please contact us for more information.

• 21+ days before the first class: Full refund.
• 14–20 days before the first class: Refund minus a 50% administrative fee.
• Fewer than 14 days before the first class: No refunds.
• Seat transfer: If you find a replacement who pays for and takes your seat before the first class begins, you are eligible for a full refund.
