Welcome to Cardi Party!

May 3 - June 7, every other Sunday from 1-3 (longer if needed).

So you've been adding to your knitting skills and knit lots of beautiful items you love wearing!  What's next?  How about knitting a cardigan?!

Learn the basics of cardigan construction by knitting The Felix Cardigan by Amy Christoffers.  The class and instructor will share tips and help in a friendly, warm atmosphere.  Our knitting classes are big on fellowship!

What You'll Learn

  • How to knit short rows and pick them up.
  • How to pick up stitches for a button band, sleeves and crew neck
  • How to knit buttonholes.
  • How to knit eyelets.
  • How to do a sewn tubular bind-off
  • How ease plays a part in garment construction and fit.

What You’ll Need to Bring:

  • A printed copy from Ravelry of Felix Cardigan by Amy Christoffers.
  • A gauge swatch (more on that below)
  • Wound yarn (If your yarn needs to be wound, come to the store before class starts to wind it yourself.)
  • Stitch markers,  scissors, tapestry needle, row counter (if you have one or some way to keep your place in the pattern
  • Practice yarn and appropriate needles for the practice yarn (doesn't have to match pattern)
  • 3 different needle sizes to knit various sweater parts (if you get gauge ). They are
    • US 10/6mm: circular 16” and 24” or longer for body and a set of 4 or 5 DPN for sleeves.
    • US 8/5mm: circular 16” and 24” or longer, and a set of 4 or 5 DPN for sleeve cuffs.
    • US 5/3.75mm circular or straight for tubular cast on (optional)
      • PLEASE NOTE:  If you don't get gauge, these needle sizes will change.  If you don't understand this, contact Alicia.
  • Waste yarn or cords so sweater can be tried on
  • 6 20mm buttons (close to 3/4 inch in size)

Required Skills: How to cast on; how to cast off; how to knit and purl; how to do decreases (K2tog and SSK) You should be comfortable reading a pattern without too much help.

Outcome:  The student will have mastered the necessary skills  to knit, wear and complete a cardigan. Most of the work will be done at home.

Special Note

Now about that gauge swatch....I consider gauge swatches very important in the construction of our knitted garments so I insist we knit them before we start the class.  If you have never knitted a gauge swatch before and have no idea how to do so, please contact me before the class. That means you need to provide some contact info (phone number is good) when you register for the class.   I can send you some links to help.  Or you can research it yourself by watching some You Tube videos.

The gauge swatch does not need to be knitted in the round because this is a cardigan.  Make sure you look at the pattern for info on size and stitches to be used while knitting it.
